Trends affect us always!

The world around us is always changing due to trends; Styles, the way we talk, music, dancing, social media, etc. Since the world is affected by trends, the art world is also changing. Which in some cases it can be good but also can hurt the artist.

For me as an artist, I like to base my work about self-image and what social media tells us females who to be and not to be. It has always been a big topic talked about on the internet and throughout social media. A trend that I notice when scrolling throughout my instagram is more photographs of pregnant women as models and girls who are “heavier” than your regular Victoria Secrete model.

When looking at these photographs, you can tell that they feel beautiful and it shows they are comfortable in their own skin. Another thing about these photos is the edits or filters being used, they are bright and have that “hipster look”. For me as an artist I like to capture the darkness of self image, by showing girls fixing themselves and caring so much about what the internet tells them. With these trends that are happening, it is hard because they aren’t happy images, they are uncomfortable.

With these certain trends though, it has made me look at my work more and what I can do to keep up with the certain things I see including the edits and filters. Throughout time I have changed the way I portray self-image just because the internet and the world is always changing.

Even if I delete social media, it is still going to change. The filters will change, the way women portray themselves, and the styles also affects that as well. If a women doesn’t dress in that certain trend at the time even if it is just shoes or what not, they feel like an outcast.

Trends always affect an artist, even if you try to ignore it. Its good to keep up with trends but its also okay to keep some of your style into your work to be different and to make your work stand out than the other normal things social media users usually see.
